“Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Confucius

I did just that in a company that cares for me and its employees, and indeed, work has generally never felt like a chore for me. I have nothing but gratitude for 18 blessed, grace-filled, and joyful years at Energy Development Corporation.

This pandemic has made me confirm the lengths that our company is willing to go to keep us safe and whole as we provide 100% green power to our country. While others have cut down on employee costs, including merit increases and other benefits, EDC did the opposite and even added a special interest development program to enable us to learn more about other non-work hobbies.

EDC even declared its new bold mission to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future last year to emphasize its firm commitment to elevate us, its employees, and our other stakeholders while protecting our planet.

What does being regenerative mean to me as an employee? It’s about bringing out the best in us so that we’ll be ready to work and excel anywhere and, at the same time, providing us meaning in what we do and a culture that espouses genuine familial concern so that we won’t want to leave. I mean, you wouldn’t want to leave your family, right? While other corporate experts don’t agree with having this culture, this pampamilyang malasakit inspires us to have that genuine concern for the performance of the company. The prevailing question of employees is, “how can I help the company and my colleagues?” When you’re among people who work so hard and are always willing to lend a helping hand, you can’t help but be proud to serve others with them.

What makes me gladder is the company’s relentless efforts to help our communities without requiring PR coverage. Our president and COO, Richard B. Tantoco, knows that I sometimes go bonkers when they choose not to publicize a particular project that will make a good story. Even if it makes my job more challenging, it makes me more thankful to be among the witnesses of our bosses’ authenticity and humility. This drives me to be more creative in doing what I have to do and has kept the fire burning in me even after almost two decades of being with EDC. This higher purpose has also helped me weather the storms that I went through some years back.

Communicating in a way that elevates not only our company but also our stakeholders, who have become our partners in healing the planet, is a privilege that I will always treasure and share with the rest of my team. Thank you, Allan Barcena, for your kindness, patience, and words of wisdom as our Boss. Thank you, Soleil Acu and Gabrielle Binaday, for your dedication and for your hard work. I hope to pass on the lessons that I have learned from our company as we work together.

Dear EDC and Team, here’s to more years of doing what we love.

The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is a pioneer in generating 100% clean, renewable, and reliable power as an electricity supplier in the Philippines for over 40 years. With power plants all over Visayas and Mindanao, the company is one of the biggest producers of geothermal energy in Asia and is expanding its reach in the international market, allowing it to offer customers affordable energy rates. EDC also strives to provide the best customer service it can to all its clients by having helpful salespeople and easy to understand contracts. Because of all of this, it is poised to become the premier supplier of electricity for the Philippines’ Green Energy Option Program. EDC takes its mission as a renewable energy provider seriously and goes beyond sustainability by investing in programs that enhance the environment and empower its partner communities, thereby fostering regenerative development. The company has also been working toward being carbon-neutral by improving its energy efficiency, as well as implementing various greening projects to ensure that its mission to provide future generations with a better life remains intact.
