By: RA Duhaylungsod | JP Valenzuela
Vince Khalil Malcampo humbly hails from Barangay Balili of the Municipality of Valencia, Negros Oriental. He comes from a broken family and stays with his mother and helps in running their little store, which is their only source of income. Vince’s daily routine starts as early as one o’clock in the morning where he goes early to the market to prepare their stocks and orders, goes home to attend his online classes, then returns to the store after class. He admits that his daily routine is tiresome but he’s happy to assist his mom.
When asked about the Energy Development Corporation scholarship grant, he responds with gratitude, “Dako kaayug tabang ang SIKAT scholarship di lang sa ako kung di sa akong mama kay di na mi mag problema sa gasto namu para sa akong skwela since naa may allowance kong madawat every month para lang sa mga materials and other things needed para sa mga projects naku. Also, Nagkaila ila sad ko sa akong mga co-scholars not just here sa Negros, but sa laing parte sad sa Nasod. The ones I can call my second family bisag bag ohanay lang nagkaila, but I got comfortable and I see them as my big brothers and sisters whom I can depend on and they can depend on me as well. Maung grateful jud kaayu ko nga part ko sa SIKAT Scholars.”
Vince is on his freshman year in college taking up Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU. He enjoys spending his free time at home. “I like playing mobile games, dancing, playing some instruments, playing sports, watching anime, and other stuff”.
“EDC for me, since childhood, is a big company where my grandfather and my father worked, and someday I will follow in their footsteps. Now that I am a part of the SIKAT scholarship program, I learned that EDC is more than just a company, it is like a big family where everyone can entrust things and our future,” Vince added.
In parting, Vince shared that he wanted to graduate from his engineering degree, pass the board examination and work at the Energy Development Corporation as his elders did.
Vince’s inspiring story is only one of the many SIKAT scholars that EDC has financially supported and mentored. We enjoin everyone to become “enablers of hope” by supporting our CSR initiatives by becoming a SIKAT Partner. Click here if interested to support a scholar>> Become A SIKAT Partner
