First Gen-owned and the country’s geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) bagged the silver award for the industry category at the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) 12th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) National Awarding Ceremonies (“Recognizing Best OSH Practices Amidst Crises”) held at the Occupational Safety and Health Center Auditorium in Quezon City last November 23, 2022.
The GKK award was given to EDC’s 108-megawatt Mount Apo Geothermal Project (MAGP) for its outstanding contributions, exemplary implementation, compliance, and promotion of its occupational safety and health programs responding to the needs of workers, workplaces, and community.
Located in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, MAGP’s Production Engineer Arnel Gamao and Health & Safety Officer Jessel Pagsuguiron also won a National Silver Award for the individual category for their continued partnership, significant accomplishments, and contributions to MAGP’s safety, health, and environment programs and initiatives.
“It is an honor to be recognized in the GKK’s National Safety Award anew. Safety remains as our number one priority in EDC. We will continue to develop safe and healthy working conditions for all our stakeholders in EDC’s areas of operations. That’s our commitment,” said Gamao.
Since 1991, the DOLE has been giving the GKK award in recognition of outstanding and commendable achievements of establishments and individuals in terms of responding to the safety and health needs of workers, workplaces, and the community.
