Energy Development Corporation lent two 40-feet air-conditioned container vans to the City of Sorsogon for its additional quarantine area for probable and suspected COVID-19 cases.
Lopez-led geothermal power leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) on Tuesday said more than P2.5 million worth of in-kind donations were extended to Bicolanos to aid them with the on-going fight against the corona virus disease (COVID-19).
EDC Stakeholder Relations Expert Eduardo Jimenez said the company is one with the communities, especially those that host its power plants, in these trying times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is our duty not only to produce uninterrupted, clean and renewable energy, but also to extend our resources to those who are in need. The crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic may be a new challenge for us, but our bayanihan as Filipinos lives on.” Jimenez said.
On 23 April, EDC successfully lent two 40-feet air-conditioned container vans to the City of Sorsogon, one of the host provinces of the company’s 140MW Bacon-Manito Geothermal Project (BGP), to be used as quarantine area for probable and suspected COVID-19 cases.
Sorsogon City Health Officer Dr. Rolando E. Dealca said the container vans would be very helpful to them as an extension of their quarantine areas for probable and suspected COVID-19 cases especially now that around 38 persons are already placed for quarantine and the city’s health facilities will not suffice the growing number of cases. He mentioned that they have even tapped the Department of Education to use public schools as their quarantine facilities.
“I’ve really known EDC. With this kind of [crisis] situation, they are really there to extend their help to the communities. On behalf of the local government of Sorsogon City, I would like to extend our gratitude to EDC for loaning us these container vans which can accommodate 24 patients. It will really serve its purpose and help us monitor the COVID-19 situation among our patients,” Dealca said.
To further assist the local government in monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the area, EDC donated thermometers to Brgy. Capuy, who currently has 57 identified persons under monitoring.
Likewise, EDC donated various medical supplies such as thermometer and medicine (antibiotics, multivitamins, paracetamol) to Manito Rural Health Unit in Albay alongside some 1,000 liters of fuel donations to the local government unit (LGU) of Manito, Albay.
To aid in its two host LGUs efforts to provide food security to their constituents, EDC also provided rice assistance of 598 sacks of rice to about 5,947 households in nine barangays in Sorsogon City and Manito, Albay.
“With the continuous implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, mass transportation are suspended, people movement are limited, workforce are paralyzed, thus, we wanted to make sure that we are able to provide at least source of food for the table for our host-communities here in Bicol,” Jimenez said.
EDC, together with other Lopez Group of companies and its employees, has been extending its help to the government, especially to the local communities, since the community quarantine was implemented in March following the growing numbers of Filipinos infected by COVID-19.
