EDC provides RNA extractor to help strengthen NegOcc’s COVID-19 resiliency

QUICK READ: Energy Development Corporation continues its COVID-19 relief efforts by providing important equipment to the Negros Occidental Provincial Hospital.

We need all the help that we can get to overcome a crisis, much more something as bad as the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this reason, Lopez-led renewable energy leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has donated an RNA extractor to Negros Occidental to further strengthen the province’s COVID-19 resiliency.

The P3 million worth equipment was turned over by EDC’s Community Partners Marie Christine Jamiana and Jayvi Valenzuela to Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” V. Lacson in a simple ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol today.

“We are one with Negros Occidental in its fight against COVID-19,” said Norreen G. Bautista, head of EDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility team in Negros Island. “Through its molecular laboratory in Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) where this vital RNA extractor will be used and with the Negrenses’ observance of all health and safety protocols, we believe that Bacolod City and the rest of the province will soon be able to win this war by flattening the curve even before the release of a COVID-19 vaccine.”

This initiative of EDC is part of its series of COVID-19 community assistance to the Visayas Region, specifically in Negros Island, Ormoc City, and Iloilo. Negros Oriental’s first own molecular laboratory that EDC has funded just began operating last week, while Ormoc City’s first own testing facility just got the green light to operate from the Department of Health this week.

To date, the company has already provided over P6 million worth of aid to its partner communities in Bago City and Murcia, to the Diocese of Bacolod City, to various local government units, and to its customers in Negros Occidental since the onset of the pandemic even if it has no operations in the area as part of its commitment to continuously support Negros Occidental.

Assistance provided include sacks of rice, food packs, bottles of alcohol, and medical supplies, which were distributed in three phases.

“As we continue to keep our employees safe and provide uninterrupted clean, renewable, reliable power to the country, we will keep on finding ways to uplift our stakeholders in Negros Island to help them beat the health and economic crisis brought about by COVID-19. This is part of our commitment to go beyond sustainability that merely seeks to do less harm by being regenerative,” emphasized Bautista.

She was referring to EDC and the rest of the Lopez group’s new mission of forging collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future. Their new chosen path calls for the entire conglomerate to uplift the state of everything they touch and everyone they partner with.

EDC is the country’s premier renewable energy company and one of the world’s largest geothermal producers. Its 222.5MW geothermal facilities in Valencia, Negros Oriental have been providing clean, renewable, reliable power 24/7 to Negros Island and other parts of the Visayas region for over 36 years.

The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is a pioneer in generating 100% clean, renewable, and reliable power as an electricity supplier in the Philippines for over 40 years. With power plants all over Visayas and Mindanao, the company is one of the biggest producers of geothermal energy in Asia and is expanding its reach in the international market, allowing it to offer customers affordable energy rates. EDC also strives to provide the best customer service it can to all its clients by having helpful salespeople and easy to understand contracts. Because of all of this, it is poised to become the premier supplier of electricity for the Philippines’ Green Energy Option Program. EDC takes its mission as a renewable energy provider seriously and goes beyond sustainability by investing in programs that enhance the environment and empower its partner communities, thereby fostering regenerative development. The company has also been working toward being carbon-neutral by improving its energy efficiency, as well as implementing various greening projects to ensure that its mission to provide future generations with a better life remains intact.
