Lopez-led geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) continues to join the fight of the Filipino people against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by ensuring that communities in need have adequate food supply. The company has so far donated 1,954 sacks of rice, enough to feed more than 14,000 households in its areas of operation throughout the country.
Given the enhanced community quarantine and border lockdowns that affect the public’s immediate access to food supply, the company has made it a priority to support the various local government units (LGUs) in its partner communities to ensure that families do not go hungry and get sick from the virus.
Atty. Allan Barcena, head of EDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations, has said that the company has been ramping up its relief efforts since March of this year. “The shutdown of several businesses and establishments means that several daily wage earners lose their only source of income. EDC wants to assure that those who are especially vulnerable continue to have food on their tables. The company’s commitment to our partner communities remains strong, even more so in times like this, and we will continue to provide help to those who need it for as long as we can,” Barcena said.
Local government officials of Barangay Bucal Bucalan and Barangay Capun in Sorsogon where EDC’s 140MW Bacon-Manito Geothermal Project (BGP) stands have expressed their gratitude to EDC for the additional rations of food supply that will help more than 600 households and for EDC’s BGP CSR Head Eduardo Jimenez’s help in facilitating the distribution of relief goods even during Holy Week. Mayor Matt Torres of the Municipality of Kananga also mentioned EDC in a post on his official FB page, “Maraming salamat sa Energy Development Corporation (EDC) na nag-donate ng 310 na sako ng bigas. Ang inyong donasyon ay malaki ang tulong sa aming Munisipalidad. Sisiguraduhin naming makararating ito sa lahat ng mga nangangailangan (Thank you very much, EDC, for donating 310 sacks of rice. Your donation is a big help to our municipality. We will make sure that it gets to those who are in need).”
EDC has so far sourced 224,000 kilos of rice worth P10.4M for delivery to the beneficiary households and communities not only in Sorsogon and in Kananga, Leyte but also in Ormoc City, Leyte; Valencia, Negros Oriental; and in Kidapawan City, Cotabato. The company continues to stand as one with the Filipino people and will carry on in the nation’s fight against COVID-19.
EDC’s 1,475MW total installed capacity generates 37% of the country’s total renewable energy, with its 1,181MW geothermal portfolio accounting for 61% of the country’s total installed geothermal capacity and putting the Philippines on the map as the world’s 3rd largest geothermal producer.
The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is a pioneer in generating 100% clean, renewable, and reliable power as an electricity supplier in the Philippines for over 40 years. With power plants all over Visayas and Mindanao, the company is one of the biggest producers of geothermal energy in Asia and is expanding its reach in the international market, allowing it to offer customers affordable energy rates. EDC also strives to provide the best customer service it can to all its clients by having helpful salespeople and easy to understand contracts. Because of all of this, it is poised to become the premier supplier of electricity for the Philippines’ Green Energy Option Program. EDC takes its mission as a renewable energy provider seriously and goes beyond sustainability by investing in programs that enhance the environment and empower its partner communities, thereby fostering regenerative development. The company has also been working toward being carbon-neutral by improving its energy efficiency, as well as implementing various greening projects to ensure that its mission to provide future generations with a better life remains intact.
