QUICK READ: The geothermal power facility and hot spring in the area will be more accessible to tourists.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte completed a 1.5-kilometer tertiary road-widening project that will benefit tourists who will visit a geothermal power facility and hot spring.
The Fourth District Engineering Office’s construction work worth P75 million on the Kananga-Tungonan Hot Spring Road project started in February and is one of the high-impact projects of DPWH in the district.
Leyte’s geothermal reservation area, managed by the Energy Development Corporation, occupies 107,625 hectares of forest cover and spans 14 towns and two cities, according to district engineer Lino Francisco Gonzalez.
The power facilities produce clean and renewable and reliable electric power for the province and the rest of the Visayas regions.
The road widening project is seen to improve tourism in Kananga, Leyte and Ormoc City.
On Friday, Ormoc City Richard Gomez led a team from the city government that conducted a site inspection of the hot spring.
Ormoc plans to rehabilitate the hot spring into a tourist destination like how it was when the geothermal reservation areas were still under the Philippine National Oil Company.
