Companies are embracing transformative technologies, acknowledging the need to change not just as a means to adapt, but to survive in an environment that is dynamic and increasingly complex.
For EDC’s SubSurface Geothermal Resource Group, this was put to the test when COVID-19 started. With the team’s mobility and physical interaction limited by the restrictions caused by the pandemic, Group Head Aldwin Alcober had to find ways for the team to thrive in a remote work setting during the new normal.
SSGR’s digital road map was the key to identifying key initiatives that would help the team in their digital transformation. Drawing inspiration from the Data Science Hierarchy of Needs, the initiatives were laid out to show their interdependence toward building digital intelligence, from data capture to advanced applications of modeling and analytics. This would be the foundation upon which data-driven insights are enabled, paving the way for a “digital-augmented resource exploration and steam delivery.”
An SSGR digital community was formed to bring together the leads, project managers, and stakeholders to help make the road map come to life. Regular meetings were set to provide community members an opportunity to interact, update, raise issues, collaborate, or simply connect and share ideas.
It is inspiring to see the team members start to mature and become comfortable in being agile—individuals converge into self-organizing teams, assuming their roles in their respective initiative. The high level of collaboration ensures that all team members have the same goal: to contribute to the successful delivery of the team’s objectives.
The task of implementing the digital roadmap is daunting. Comforting however is the teams’ dedication, instilling confidence that its realization is just a matter of time.
